How does the Mediterranean diet work?
The Mediterranean Diet is remarkably similar to the diet recommended by the American Heart Association. More than half the fat calories come from monounsaturated fats, which don’t wreak havoc on the body’s cholesterol levels the way that saturated fats do. People who consume less saturated fats have a much lower incident of heart disease and related health problems. Additionally, the consumption of large amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables, along with red wine, provide the body with an array of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which also support overall health.
