Why is accreditation important?
AACSB accreditation assures you of a high-quality offering. The accreditation entails scrutiny of faculty, curriculum and student satisfaction, among other things. DNA relationship testing is not regulated by a government agency. Accreditation is the only safeguard a private individual has to know that a laboratory is performing sound and accepted scientific methodology. (New York Residents: Accreditation is required by your state agency for all testing in New York). PTC is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks, FQS/ ISO 17025 and the New York State Department of Health. PTC also participates in proficiency multiple times per year with the College of American Pathologists, Forensic Quality Services and the New York Department of Health.
Across a great number of industry sectors, personnel certification validates public confidence in the services on which our lives and economies depend. In turn, accreditation ensures that the certification program is engaged in continuous review and improvement of its quality and is accountable for achieving what it sets out to do. Accreditation through an internationally recognized framework and evaluation system will confirm that a certification body has conformed/met all of the requirements identified in the standard.
Regional accreditation is the primary type of institutional accreditation recognized in the United States. Some institutions with online programs hold national accreditation rather than regional accreditation because they are unwilling or unable to meet the rigorous standards of regional accreditation. You also should know that many educational institutions holding regional accreditation do not recognize credits or degrees earned at institutions that are nationally accredited. This is very important if you plan on transferring from one college or university to another part way through a degree program, or if you plan to pursue additional degrees at different colleges or universities.
