What is the SEER rating?
SEER is the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. This is the federally mandated method of determining the efficiency of air conditioning systems. A 13 SEER is the lowest efficiency system sold today. Two additional ratings are also used. They are AFUE and HSPF. AFUE, the Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency, is the standard measurement of efficiency for gas furnaces and HSPF, the Heating Seasonal Performance Rating, is the standard measurement used to gauge the efficiency of the heating mode of heat pumps.
