Iris scanning uses recognition biometric technology to capture a high resolution digital photograph of an individual’s iris. The technology can tell the difference between twins or even an individual’s right and left eye. Iris scanning is not harmful to childrens’ eyes. What happens to the scan? The scan is downloaded into The Children’s Identification & Location Database (CHILD) Project by your local sheriff or optometrist. The CHILD Project is a secure nationwide network and registry, maintained by the Nation’s Missing Children Organization that enables Sheriff’s Offices and social service agencies across the nation to locate and positively identify missing children.
