What is guided imagery used for?
Based on the idea that your mind has the capacity to effect changes in your body, guided imagery taps into the immense power of the mind. It is used to promote physical relaxation and reduce stress. Guided imagery is also used for smoking cessation, weight loss, pain management and symptom reduction from several chronic illnesses. It is gaining acceptance among clinicians as a viable treatment or adjunctive treatment for depression, and has been used effectively for many years to treat certain types of anxiety. Many athletes, musicians and entertainers also use guided imagery to prepare for competition and performance. But you don’t have to be an athlete or performer to benefit from guided imagery. In the day-to-day course of life management, this technique can be used to calm you down, eliminate erroneous distractions, increase mental focus and improve performance.
