Where are Hydes parents? Why does he live in the Forman basement?
Originally Hyde lived with his mother, Edna, in a rundown house they rented. She worked at the school cafeteria as “Gross Edna”, the lunchlady. She ran off with a trucker near the end of Season One, prompting a concerned Kitty to ask a reluctant Red to take in Hyde. Red was currently on reduced hours at the plant he worked in and money was tight. Hyde shared Eric’s room for a while, but then disovered an abandoned room at the back of the Basement, which he converted into his own bedroom. In the middle of Season Two, Laurie Forman moves out of the house and Hyde starts to move his things into her room. But by the end of the episode, she’s back, and he’s barricaded himself in her room. Later she moves out again (Lisa Robin Kelly leaves the show) but no mention of giving Laurie’s room to Hyde is made.
