Where can I find on-line images of Comet P/Shoemaker-Levy 9?
Images of the comet before impact with Jupiter, as well as images of the collisions and their effects on Jupiter are available on NSSDC’s Comet Impact page. The International Halley Watch (IHW) CD-ROMs have data and images of comets P/Halley, P/Crommelin, and P/Giacobini-Zinner in PDS and FITS formats. There are also plans for CD-ROMs in FITS format with data for comets P/Shoemaker-Levy 9 and P/Grigg-Skjellerup. In addition to this, images taken by the Galileo Solid-State Imager (SSI) of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9’s impact on Jupiter are available on Volume 16 of the Galileo imaging set, which also contains all available images of the asteroid Ida, as Raw Experimenter Data Records (REDRs).
