Where do ants live?
Ants live on every continent except Antarctica. Different species of ants live on different continents, and in different places on each continent. Most ants live underneath the ground and forage on the surface for food. Some live their entire lives underground. Other ants live inside rotting logs or make their homes underneath tree bark. Many kinds of ants live on plants. Some plants even make special rooms on their stems that the ants can live in. A large portion of the world’s ant species live in the tropical rainforests in South America, Africa, and Indonesia. Ants like warm temperatures, and the tropics are warm all year around. In general, the further you move from the equatorial tropics, where it becomes colder, the fewer ants (both numbers and species) you’ll find.
