What defines an independent student for the purpose of aid?
An independent student is: • At least 24 years old by December 31 of the award year; or • An orphan or ward of the court; or • A veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States; or • A graduate (post baccalaureate) or professional student; or • A married student; or someone with legal dependents other than a spouse to whom the student contributes more than half of their support.
