What are “specialization” courses?
DM candidates pursue one of three areas of specialization within the degree program: technology and information systems, organizational processes, or international operations. Candidates take 9 semester hours of coursework in the area of specialization; it is assumed that the doctoral dissertation will also focus on the area of specialization.
Specialization courses (also called substantive policy courses) are three courses from any of the social sciences disciplines having a substantive or disciplinary link — forming a subfield of study within public policy. Any courses taught in the University at the 200-level and above are eligible to serve as specialization courses with the exception of independent study courses and some introductory courses.
