The hook is simply that – a hook. When your pole is not in use, the mount hook will allow you to hang a plant, covering the mount if you wish. The hook is removable should you wish not to hang something from it. The mount is only 1.5″ in diameter – so blends in easily with other ceiling fixtures. The hook does not secure the pole in place.
