What are the differences between the Masters and Doctoral Counseling Psychology Programs?
The Master’s program in Counseling Psychology at TWU is a 61-64 credit-hour program that primarily prepares graduates to be able to provide direct psychotherapy services. The Doctoral program is a 123-127 credit-hour program that prepares graduates for practice, university teaching, and/or research positions. While both programs include 4 semesters of practicum (supervised psychotherapy training), Doctoral students take an additional set of core courses, 2 additional research classes, 2-3 additional assessment classes, and are required to complete a full-year, national, competitive internship in addition to the practicum courses. Students in the Master’s program can choose from a coursework-only option which includes a Capstone class with a comprehensive examination over all coursework or to produce a thesis.
