Is GSM an international standard?
GSM is an international standard but some countries use different radio frequencies; the most common being 900/1800 – usually referred to as dual band – which is used by all countries except the United States and Japan. The US uses 850/1900; many phones are designed to work across all 4 frequencies and are referred to as quad band. Japan has a system of their own, called Imode.
