What is a patch cable?
An Ethernet patch cable is required to connect the Ethernet card/capability in the computer to the Ethernet port. This is a specially constructed cable needed for high-speed data communication and it is not the same as a phone cord. It should be a Category 5 or better 10BASE-T patch cable with RJ-45 connectors and eight pins. It is recommended that the cable be no greater than ten feet in length for increased performance, but some rooms may require longer patch cables. It is important to note that a modem/telephone cable will not work in the Ethernet ports and will cause damage that will require repair at the student’s expense.
