What is Clarification?
Clarification is the removal of suspended matter and/or colour from water supplis. The suspended matter may consist of large particles which settle out readily. In these cases clarifi-cation equipment merely involves the use of settling basins and/or filters. Most often, however, suspended matter in water consists of particles so small that they do not settle out and even pass through filters. The removal of these finely divided or colloidal substances therefor requires the use of coagulants.
