Would Jesus support the death penalty?
I cannot find any solid bases to connect Jesus to an answer on this question. So instead of trying to use Him to prop up my own beliefs; I’m left with a strong I don’t got a clue. I doubt anyone else has one either. Time and much discussion will maybe shed some light on this question. The only time when it seemed that Jesus might have touched on the death penalty was the woman caught on adultery who was about to be stoned. However, this situation has so many complications and hidden agendas that its application to the death penalty in general is too murky to be a solid proof either way. 1. This was more of a test for Jesus that it was the normal punishment for this crime. 2. This is clearly a case were the punishment was excessive. 3. The under class in which women were placed limited their alternatives and sometimes their very survival was dependent on alternative sources of income. 4. This was a sexist prosecution. Adultery takes two, yet there was no mention of the man involved. 5.
