What is the proper mowing height?
Mowing height is very important as well. A general rule is to never cut off more than one third of the blade at once. Any more than this and an undue level of stress is induced making grass vulnerable to insect and disease infestation. Grass height should be maintained at a level which allows ample exposure for photosynthesis but not so high that the grass is forced to lean over preventing air flow and light penetration. A high cut lawn has many benefits associated with it, such as shading out sun loving weeds, as well as requiring less frequent mowings.
