What are the AUP and Netiquette?
A college or service provider’s Acceptable Use Policy outlines rules and procedures that govern appropriate use of computers and networks. Students are expected to abide by this policy. AUP normally includes these points: • Federal and/or state laws regarding transmission of offensive materials and consequences for any inappropriate or illegal activity • Users must take personal responsibility for email communication, recognize that email is not guaranteed to be private, and follow Netiquette. • Downloading software and recreational use of computers are sometimes prohibited. Netiquette for Email and Discussion Forums: • Sign your email messages. • Include a subject heading. • Forward messages only when appropriate and when writer would allow. • Quote judiciously when replying and be concise. • DO NOT SHOUT (write in all caps). • Do not flame (write vindictive personal attack), and if you are flamed do not flame in return.
