How can I make my single coil pickup sound brighter like a Fender Jaguar?
The metal claw around a Jaguar is made from a ferrous material and will attract the magnetic field from the pole pieces. The claw helps retain the magnetic field closer to the coil as compared to a Strat pickup where the magnetic field can expand further away from the coil. The Jaguar claw or keeper is also grounded to help reduce unwanted clicks and pops in the amplifier. One method and depending on what kind of single coil you have, the coil needs to be protected and insulated so damage to the coil does not occur. This can be done with a quality insulation tape and cut it about 1/32″ narrower than the winding traverse. Next you need to find a small amount of shim stock to wrap around your bobbin. You can go to a hardware store and purchase a sheet of shim stock about .010″ inches thick that is made out of a ferrous material.
