Transcendentalism is defined as “a movement in nineteenth-century American literature and thought. It called on people to view the objects in the world as small versions of the whole universe and to trust their individual intuitions”. There are many different interpretations for the meaning of transcendentalism. Transcendentalism is all about being you, and speaking your mind. Transcendentalism is about the child, and molding their minds. Transcendentalism is anti-conformity and pro-individualism.

Transcendentalism, in a nutshell, is the idea that the human potential (generally spiritual potential) is accessible through one’s own actions and ideas, rather than on traditional dogma and the traditions of various religions. It can also refer to the literature attributed to the ideas of transcendentalism. For an example, the Maharishi, (an Asian guru who came to America at the end of the Hippie movement) promoted what he called Transcendental Meditation, the idea was that by simple repeating a personal mantra (a phrase repeated over and over as a way of concentration) one could eliminate themselves of sadness and begin to be truly happy in their everyday lives. I hope that helps.
