What are the birds and the bees?
“The birds and the bees” (sometimes expanded to “the birds, the bees and the butterflies” or “the birds, the bees, the flowers, and the trees”) is a commonly used phrase (which has become somewhat of a clich) referring to bumbling attempts by parents to give sex education talks to their children, usually in a method that refers to nature as a way of describing the symbolic aspects of sex without actually describing the biology or providing any useful insight to the child receiving it.
