Does cavity wall insulation cause damp?
Modern cavity wall insulation correctly installed does not cause damp as has been scientifically proven through independent tests by the British Board of Agrement “BBA, the UK’s major authority offering approval of construction products”. If you are considering insulating your cavity wall it is advisable to ask to see a copy of the BBA certificate whether as a brochure or a pdf file to put your mind at rest. You will note I say modern and correctly installed so what does this mean? When cavity wall insulation first came out in the mid 70’s it was basically 2 chemicals that reacted with each other and expanded in the cavity, there was some rogue contractors that did not mix the chemicals as recommended or did not completely fill the cavity which could have caused damp. Needless to say this was why the BBA stepped in to get rid of the cowboys.
