What types of visas are available?
Visas are grouped into the following streams: • Visitors – for someone who wishes to stay in Australia temporarily for a holiday doing tourism activities and/or to visit family and/or friends; • Family – this stream is based on your relationship with an Australian citizen or permanent resident including a parent, child, spouse, defacto spouse, carer or remaining relative; • Business – business visas are for people who are looking to invest in, own or manage a business in Australia; • Skilled – If you have qualifications and/or skills in a highly skilled occupation area; • Employment – If you have an offer of employment from an Australian business which wishes to sponsor you for a visa, and a skilled occupation which is in demand in Australia; • Students – for those who wish to study in Australia; • Humanitarian – this stream is for refugees and people who need to escape from their own country because of violence or persecution; and • Miscellaneous other temporary visas.
