What is the Career Planning Tool?
The Career Planing Tool (CPT) is an interactive database application, created using Microsoft Access 2000, that allows users to conduct a “competency gap analysis” and automatically generate a plan for developing needed competencies. The CPT is based on information found in the DON Civilian Career Path Guide for the Management of Technology, Information and Knowledge. The CPG outlines a career development process, defines the work performed in terms of competencies for various information management/information technology and knowledge management career areas and job roles, and provides a Career Progression Plan (CPP) to use when outlining a developmental strategy. The CPT automates both the competency information as well as the CPP. See Career Planning Tool.
