What city directories are available?
City Directories are a lot like phone books. They contain listings of businesses and individuals, their addresses, their phone numbers and whether one was an owner, renter or boarder. City directory listings contain more than phone books do, however, such as occupations, places of employment, and the names of others living in the same household, such as spouse or adult children and whether a woman was a widow or head of household. Note as you can see some years are combined. Not all years are available due to city directories having been lost in the 1936 and 1977 Johnstown Floods. Johnstown City Directories cover primarily Johnstown City Proper and not the outlying suburbs (northern part of the county).
