What is the incineration process?
The incineration process (bio-medical thermal destruction) ensures that all pathogenic waste is sterilised (destroyed), and all waste is rendered unrecognisable and non-infectious. The incinerator has; * A primary chamber to burn the waste and volatise gases. * A secondary (2 second/1300oC retention) chamber to combust the volatised gases to carbon dioxide and water vapour. * Air Pollution Control Equipment to effectively clean all emissions. (A.P.C.E) All residual ash (about <10% of the volume of the original waste) is inert, completely unrecognisable and safe for transported to an approved, state of the art landfill site. The technology used by SITA-Medi-Collect ensures it is effective in rendering waste non-toxic. Monitoring of emissions and other by-products is undertaken by an independent organisation twice a year (reported to the DoE & NPI).
