Are there different entries for multiple binding sites for the same TF (upstream of the same gene) with differences in sequence?
If a promoter/enhancer contains multiple proven binding sites for a factor, each of them should be contained in a different entry, regardless of whether they are identical in sequence or not. In some cases, multiple binding sites can be contained in one and the same entry, if they were contained in the oligonucleotide which the researchers used in their binding studies. [There is also the possibility of “redundancy”, when different researchers used overlapping oligonucleotides for the binding of one and the same factor (often without knowing that they worked on the same factor). In this case it is possible that one binding site may be covered by more than one site entry.
