Simply put, clothing made from organic cotton means the cotton was grown without pesticides or insecticides. Unfortunately, many cotton growers use both, approximately ten percent of the world’s pesticides, and twenty-five percent of all the world’s insecticides according to the World Health Organization or WHO. The WHO also estimates that up to twenty thousand deaths occur in third-world countries from the pesticide poisoning and most are cotton farmers. Growing organic cottons means the agricultural process is environment friendly and farmers skip the use of artificial fertilizers. Along with crop rotation, farmers use natural pesticides to sway harmful insects.
