Why is pink beryl called Morganite?
Pink beryl has only been called morganite since the year 1911, having been so named in honor of the New York finance expert and renowned gemstone collector John Pierpont Morgan. It was named after him by Tiffany & Co.‘s “chief gemologist” George Frederick Kunz, who became vice president of Tiffany’s at the astoundingly young age of 23. Kunz was also a research curator at the American Museum of Natural History and worked with Morgan to assemble the Morgan-Tiffany collection for the museum.
