Do magnets lose strength?
It is a proven fact that magnets can lose strength over time and outside elements such as: Outside electrical fields: Soldering guns should never be used to work on your guitar electronics or pickup modifications as the coil has a strong electro-magnetic field that can degauss the magnet within your pickups. Being in contact with other magnetic fields: I ve always hated seeing displays in stores where the pickups are piled on top of each other as the pickups can interfere with the ones above or below. Never store pickups next to each other as a stronger pickup with a ceramic magnet can degauss or realign the domains in magnets from other pickups. Hitting magnets: Never tap magnets with metal objects as the shock can realign the domains again in the magnet. Hitting or dropping magnets can change the magnetic domains within the magnets.
