When did graphic design all start?
The predecessors to graphic designers were probably compositors who put together lead type, and also people who created brands to make their product recognisable and packaging to protect it. Commercial artists were also employed to create idyllic scenes to sell products. Eventually people realised that certain formulae such as a reliable product, recognisable branding, and advertising that brand sold products. Port Sunlight / Lever Bros is a good one to look up.
