What are the signs for HIV/AIDS?
There are no signs per se. Some people report viral like symptoms 12-14 days after exposure (primary infection). It is called ‘seroconversion illness’ as it is the time when antibodies first appear in the bloodstream. Not everyone does and it is important to remember we all get up to 7-10 virus’s a year so it is likely coincidental. The virus then lays dormant and you may not experience symptoms for 7-10 years (this can be less or more). As the virus continues to multiply, the number of CD4 T-cells tends to gradually fall. During this time some people with HIV who are otherwise well develop persistent swollen lymph glands and/or night sweats and are more prone to infections.
