Pretty much any finish can work but some may not be compatible with possible contaminants from your stripper or other contaminants such as silicone. When we were refinishing furniture we found a nice finish that feels nice like Lacquer and has all the benefits of polyureathane without feeling too “Plastic”. The best finish we found that goes over pretty much anything is “VS” (Vinyl Seal) by Reliable finishing products in Elk Grove IL. We liked the “Satin” on furniture. Be aware any “satin finish” has dulling agents in it so it will look slightly cloudy on some surfaces. Any gloss finish is more clear and is a harder finish but the down side is the gloss. You can rub out any finish with 0000 Steel wool to tone down the gloss plus it will smooth out the finish. After using the steel wool you can use a polish like “Scotts Liquid Gold” to clean up the dust from the steel wool. This method will be the simplest to keep clean (dust after that).
