How much do rats cost?
The initial cost of a rat ranges anywhere from the pet store feeder rat at $3-$5 to the fanciest, registered, show-quality blue-point siamese satin double rex dumbo or other rats from private breeders who may charge up to or even over $20 a rat. Rats in shelters usually have a small adoption fee of a couple dollars. For what has been called an “exotic pet,” rats are surprisingly inexpensive.
