What is a gravel pit?
A gravel pit is a site where sand and gravel from below the ground surface is excavated, crushed, and transported to construction sites by large trucks. Problems that can be encountered with a gravel pit may include one or more of: • Noise • Dust • Traffic • Drinking water quality and quantity; • Ecological impact on the surrounding environment; • Change in character of the community; and/or • Impact to property values.
