What is a property release and when do I need one?
A property release is a disclaimer from a person/company/artist that owns a building/design/artwork or anything else that can be copyrighted, stating that the photographers have the right to sell and publish images or footage depicting the object within any context. It is not always necessary to have a property release when taking pictures of buildings and the like, but if the object is copyrighted you need a property release to be able to publish or distribute the images. It is also strongly advisable to have a property release if the image depicts a recognizable building or home, especially if the photo is taken from within the property. The reason is that the design of the lighting is copyrighted. The basic release principle applies: A release may be required if an association can be made betw
