Will Delvac 1 change color with use?
It may, depending on the engine. Over the past several years, diesel engines have been designed to minimize the generation of smoke from the engine — with a considerable amount of this soot being handled by detergents and dispersants in the engine oil. A high-quality diesel engine oil is formulated to handle high soot levels. Delvac 1 may turn black relatively quickly as it does its job, depending on how much soot your engine produces. Some engine designs have been developed that use engine technology to reduce the formation of soot in the engine- rather than push the soot into the oil. Our experience with these engines shows considerably less oil color change.
