How does a coal-fired power plant work?
Coal-fired units produce electricity by burning coal to heat water in boilers that produce steam. Under tremendous pressure, the steam flows into a turbine, which spins a generator to produce electricity. The steam is then cooled, condensed back into water, and returned either to the environment or to the boiler to start the process over again. Wet scrubbers use water and other elements to filter the exhaust air and substantially lower emissions from the plant.
