Typically, the dust you find on your work surface is paper dust. This is much too heavy to stay suspended in the air and be filtered out. That is why you notice it on your work surface. A damp paper towel (water only please) will take care of this. Air cleaners are only effective on particles that are suspended in the air and then pass through the unit. Most of the buildings we occupy have a central heating/air conditioning unit (HVAC). These units are equipped with filters and move large volume of air compared to the relatively small amount processed by a portable unit, meaning the portable unit will have little effect on the overall air compared to the HVAC system. We do not recommend personal air filters/cleaners as there is no documentation they would be effective. This is supported by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which does not believe small portable filters will be effective in an open office building with a central HVAC system.
