What Is Hip Roof Framing?
When you use hip roof framing, your roof will come to a central point, with all sides of the roof angled toward this point. This tends to work well for square houses, but if your house is another shape, each side of the roof may have a slightly different angle. You will want to calculate what angle will be required to reach from the outside walls of your house to the center of the roof. One thing to keep in mind if you decide to use hip roof framing is how steep the rafters will have to be to reach the central point. Hip roof framing may not be a good idea if the rise for the rafters is too steep or too flat. Too steep would make it difficult to cover the rafters. Depending on where you live, you will not want a very flat rise for your rafters because the snow would not slide off the roof after a very big snowstorm. In this case, you would need to climb onto the roof to shovel off the snow to prevent any possibility of your roof caving in.
