What is an Operator-In-Training?
An Operator-In-Training (OIT) is an operator that has taken and passed either of the Level 1 exams, water or wastewater, prior to meeting the eligibility requirements for that Level exam. The Level 1 exams are the only exams that offer an OIT interim status. The operator IS NOT CERTIFIED until those requirements are met. Within 12 months of passing their exam, they must complete the appropriate requirements for the Level 1 license and submit an upgrade form to request their upgrade to a fully certified Level 1 operator.
