GE or General Education is a program of courses in the arts and sciences that provides a broad educational experience. Courses are usually introductory in nature provide students with fundamental skills and knowledge in English, arts, humanities, mathematics, social sciences, physical and biological sciences. Students who transfer to the CSU can complete the lower division GE requirements at a community college like Mesa prior to transfer. There is an upper division GE requirement of 9 units, which must be completed after transfer at the CSU from which the bachelor’s degree is granted. It is not possible to complete all of the general education needed to graduate from a CSU at the community college.

General Education (GE) is a broad range of courses required for the Associate Degree and the Bachelor Degree. The courses are listed under general fields of study including Basic Subjects, Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Arts, and Social Sciences. English 1A, English 1B, Geology 1A, History 17A, and Political Science 1 are examples of GE courses. For most students, thirty-nine (39) units of GE are needed for CSU and UC transfer and 25 units of GE are needed for the Associate Degree.
