What are radon decay products?
Radon, although a chemically inert gas, is an unstable atom. It will breakdown, or radioactively decay, into other elements. These elements, since they are derived from radon are called radon decay products. They have historically also been called radon progeny and radon daughters. The ones of greatest health risk concern are the short-lived radon decay products that release alpha energy. These are Polonium 218 and 214.
