How to become a Petroleum Geologist?
To be honest, you don’t *have* to get a Master’s degree in anything to be a petroleum geologist. I’m classified as a petroleum geologist but only because I have a Bachelor’s in Geology and I apply it to finding petroleum. These days, it helps to have a Master’s degree when you’re looking for a job but very often, it’s not required to do the job you’re hired to do. If I had a choice between taking on more debt by spending another two years in college to get a Master’s degree and the bragging rights to go with it or getting an extra two years of experience in my field, I’d take the experience any day of the week. While you’re working on your degree, be sure to take the classes that are relevant to petroleum geology. Because I never went into college specifically for petroleum geology, I can’t answer the question about what you need to take in college, so ask an adviser in the Petroleum Engineering or Geology department, depending on how the college is set up. After you get your degree, t
