Should nuclear weapons be banned?

Obviously yes, like the person above said but how can it be done. Who gets rid of theirs first? The only deterent to nuclear attack is the ability to strike back with nukes. Even if all the current governments agree to destroy their nukes, how do you check to be sure they do? Who says some country won’t develop a nuke after all the others have been destroyed. It’s a major catch 22. Clearly we have the ability to destroy civilization. No one wants to do that. The best we can hope for are reasonable people at the top who will not be the first to launch.
