How are glass containers produced?
Glass id produced from some of the earth’s most abundant materials, such as sand (71 – 73%), soda ash (10 – 13%), limestone (10 – 13%) and “cullet”, the industry term for furnace-ready used glass containers. As the percentage of cullet introduced into virgin materials increases it replaces those materials proportionately. The only material used in greater volume than sand is cullet. these materials are mixed into what we cam “batch”, heated to 2,600-2,800 degrees Fahrenheit and molding into the desired shape of the final container.
