What are headers?
Headers refer to the equal-length runners in tuned exhaust manifolds. The purpose of equal length exhaust runners is so that the exhaust pressure waves exiting each of the cylinders travels exactly the same distance. This helps facilitate gases to exit by ensuring that the pressure waves sum correctly at the collector. Scavenging sometimes also helps draw exhaust gasses out. Headers have many different designs with various runner and collector arrangements.
