Is chinese food fattening?
Yes and No. Chinese cuisine consists of a lot of vegatables, which of course are quite healthy and low calorie. The problem comes with the sauces and breadings on some dishes. Anything with a bread/ wonton wrapper is going to add lots of calories such as crab rangoon, breaded fried chicken pieces, orange chicken (triple no-no flour and sugar!), fried wontons etc.On top of these factors rice along with corn are the single most high carbohydrate foods there are! Looking for a low calorie Chinese meal? Get steamed or saute’ed (lightly in oil) veggies, steamed rice not fried and go with chicken, beef, or shrimp. Steer clear of sauces unless you know what’s in them. Sauces are a hidden source of high calories because they often contain starch, flour and or sugar! If you have doubts ask the waiter(tress), they will be able to recommend healthy, tasty, lower calorie options!
Are you talking about Chinese food from restaurants where the cooks in the back are Mexican? Then yes, that food is fattening. True Chinese food is not fattening at all and is very high in fiber. In hindsight, what type of food do you NOT see being fried with oil and smothered with sauce? The best way to lose weight is to make sure your caloric intake does not exceed your caloric output. So, be cautious of what and how much you’re taking in. Increase your fibers, which includes fruits and vegetables. If you’re craving Chinese food from your local shop, then the least unhealthy food you can get is probably fried rice. I’m sure you can make a request that they use less salt and oil. The best way to control what you eat is, of course, to buy the ingredients fresh and make it yourself. If during your diet you accidentally splurge for one or two days, it will not make a difference. If it happens continually, you will not lose weight. Good luck.
