How are RISC levels established?
Default RISC levels are calculated in order to protect human health and the environment. The target risk level has been set at 1×10-5 risk. Levels are based on default exposure parameters, chemical/physical properties of contaminants, toxicological data, etc. For more detail on the calculation of Default closure values please reference the RISC Technical Guidance document located on the IDEM RISC Web page. The tables in Appendix 1 of the Technical Guidance document contain all the equations and default parameters used.
