Is Petco considered a horrible pet shop?
So i work in the grooming salon IN a petco, YES, Petco sucks. They do treat their animals like stock pretty much, they all pretend to care, but in order to become a “small animal specialist” or”reptile expert” there you take a short computer test, and that’s all. I’ve owned reptiles my whole life and I have seen them do every thing wrong there. Use the wrong substrates, mist the bearded dragons with water allll the time, not provide proper heating and room, not clean enclosures properly or safely. They have about 20 beadies die there every 2 months or so due to sand impaction. But this is the case in lots of pet stores. Ive worked in a few unless its a small place dedicated to mostly to certain types of animals, like a reptile shop. If you do shop there make sure to look over whichever animal you plan on buying very carefully read up on what to check for, and make sure the enclosure is clean, that will give u an idea as to how sloppy they are.
